raw file extension (archive_name.raw)

This file extension RAW is very peculiar, it does not stand for anything, its simply raw (as not cooked :P) its generally used by the high end digital cameras to store an uncompressed image with all the digital picture information.

Most photo editing applications support this format, but I recommend using the one that your camera comes with.
